She is a proud alumnus of Talladega College. There, she pledged the Alpha Zeta Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 1962. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies in 1964. During her tenure, she actively participated in the Civil Rights Movement which led to the desegregation of public facilities in Talladega, Alabama. 

That experience marked the beginning of her commitment to not settle for the second class citizenship given to African Americans. She is known to many as a very outgoing and fun loving person. She is very spirited, very dedicated and compassionate sister of our illustrious sorority.

Successfully attending obtaining her Masters in Counseling and Guidance Counseling, Dora Simpson was one of two African Americans hired with the Alabama State Employment Service an Employment Counselor in an effort to desegregate the agency. She was the first African American promoted to a managerial level supervisory position and in 1981, became the first African American to receive the State's Meritorious Award for outstanding and dedicated job performance. She was instrumental in using her position to hire many African Americans in state agencies.

As a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Dora  Simpson has held several leadership positions  within the Mobile Alumnae Chapter. She served as Sergeant at Arms, Chaired Committees such as Courtesy and the  Protocol and Traditions.  She also chaired the Social Action Committee's Census 2000 Project which resulted in Mobile Alumnae receiving 1st Place National Recognition at the National Convention in Chicago, July 2000.

Currently, Dora Simpson is best known for her efforts as the Chairperson of the Membership Services Committee.  She has been instrumental in organizing reclamation and sisterhood bonding activities such as the Cruise on Board the Cotton Blossom,  Delta Sisterhood Retreats, Monthly Birthday Celebrations, and the infamous In Touch With Your Delta Dear Project.  She has also been given honorary membership on the Mobile Alumnae Step Team where she shows support at practices and fundraisers and "learns the steps from the chair."
